What’s the difference between the top results for “Night Time Fat Burners” on Amazon.com? They’re actually all the same!
Yup, that’s right – Envy Nutrition, Mobi Nutrition, and Nav Nutrition have just slapped different labels on identical products. In fact, two of these companies are even located in the same place!
But before we start questioning the quality of this supplement, let’s ask the real question: Can you actually make your body burn more fat while you sleep?
Can you burn fat while you sleep?
While it’s true that our bodies do burn some calories and fat while we sleep, the idea that you could take a supplement to speed up fat burning at night is simply absurd.
Our bodies burn fat in response to a need for energy, and sleeping is one of the least energy-demanding activities we engage in.
In fact, our metabolism naturally slows down while we sleep, so the idea that you could speed it up to burn fat during that time would be the complete opposite of what your body naturally does.
If you were to somehow increase fat burning at night, any excess energy generated from increased metabolism would likely just heat up our bodies or cause our heart to race, making it nearly impossible to get a good night’s sleep.
The bottom line is that sleep is not the time when our bodies are going to be burning much fat.
Instead, you’d be better off focusing on burning fat during the day through exercise or intermittent fasting.
Exercise encourages your body to burn fat because your muscles require more energy. Intermittent fasting does the same because you aren’t eating anything during certain parts of the day.
That being said, getting good sleep in general is a part of supporting healthy weight loss, as it can help regulate your hormones, boost your metabolism during the day, increase your energy levels, and reduce your stress levels.
These effects can help to make your weight loss progress smoother, but likely won’t be the main things that affect your weight.
Ingredients
Now let’s take a look at the ingredients of these Night Time Fat Burners. Here are the doses per capsule. The recommended dosing is 1 capsule in the evening.
Are you noticing that everything is contained within a “proprietary blend”? It’s basically a fancy way of saying the company doesn’t have to tell you how much of each ingredient is in the product.
It might list out the ingredients, but without the doses, you could be taking a wild guess as to how much of each one is actually in there.
This lack of transparency should raise a red flag. Sure, there might be some effective ingredients in the blend, but what if they’re only present in trace amounts? It’s impossible to know.
It’s a sneaky tactic that allows companies to hide inferior ingredients or over inflate the value of their product.
The bottom line? Avoid supplements that use proprietary blends. Look for products with transparent labeling and clear dosages, so you know exactly what you’re putting in your body.
Nevertheless, we’re going to analyze what we do know from each ingredient to see whether they contain a sufficient dose, whether it contains the active compounds to work, and how effective they might be for weight loss. Then at the very end, I’ll look into cheaper alternatives and give the supplement an overall rating.
Vitamin D
While some studies have linked low levels of vitamin D with higher obesity rates, not all research supports this theory. Although vitamin D supplements may help with weight loss in some cases, taking more than you need won’t result in any added benefits.
So if you’re looking to shed some pounds, it’s important to get the right amount of vitamin D.
White kidney bean
White kidney bean extracts block the absorption of some of the carbs you eat, potentially reducing the amount of calories you get from carbs.
But don’t be fooled – it only blocks a small percentage of carbs, so if you’re not eating a lot of carbs to begin with, you might not notice much of a difference.
Studies suggest that it can lead to a weight loss of around 4 or 5 pounds over a few months.
But here’s the problem with these Night Time Fat Burners: they’re being taken at the wrong time – white kidney bean extract works best when taken with food, since it acts on the food that you’re eating, but these Night Time Fat Burners are taking them at night, long after the meal has been absorbed.
Plus, they don’t use a sufficient dose of the correct commercial extract (called Phase 2) used in most studies.
Green coffee bean
Green coffee contains chlorogenic acid, a compound that some studies suggest may help with weight loss when combined with exercise.
However, before you get too excited, it’s important to note that the weight loss benefits of chlorogenic acid are pretty modest.
On average, patients may only lose a couple of pounds over a few months.
Unfortunately, the green coffee extract found inside these Night Time Fat Burners are not even standardized, which means they may not have enough chlorogenic acid to be effective.
And here’s the kicker: green coffee extract also contains caffeine, which is not exactly the best ingredient to consume if you’re trying to get some shut-eye.
L-theanine and L-tryptophan
L-theanine and L-tryptophan are often used to help reduce stress and sometimes help with sleep. Both have some weak research for these uses, but it’s unlikely that these supplements contain enough to do anything anyways.
Valerian, Lemon Balm, Passionflower
For centuries, herbalists have turned to valerian, lemon balm, and passionflower to help alleviate the symptoms of anxiety, stress, and sleeplessness.
Among them, valerian stands out as the most promising for sleep, as there is some scientific research that suggests its effectiveness in improving sleep quality.
However, there’s a catch – to reap the benefits, one likely needs to take a dose of around 400-600 mg. And here’s where these Night Time Fat Burner supplements fall short.
While this supplement claims to include these three herbs in its “proprietary blend,” the exact amount of each ingredient remains a mystery, leaving consumers in the dark about whether they’re getting enough to make a meaningful impact.
Melatonin
When it comes to these popular Night Time Fat Burners, the most useful ingredient might just be melatonin.
This natural hormone has been found to be an effective sleep aid, helping people with insomnia and circadian rhythm disorders to fall asleep faster and enjoy better quality rest.
But the problem here is that the effectiveness of melatonin depends on the dosage used.
Side effects and warnings
Many melatonin supplements on the market offer a wide range of melatonin doses, from 0.5 to 10 mg per night.
That’s a huge range, and without knowing the exact amount provided in these Night Time Fat Burners, you could be putting yourself at risk of unwanted side effects, such as morning grogginess or headaches.
For all you know, they could be putting 100 mg of melatonin in the mix and you wouldn’t know. They probably wouldn’t since that would be pretty expensive to manufacture, but the point is just don’t know how much is in there.
So if you’re someone who’s sensitive to melatonin or looking for a specific dose to meet your needs, stay away from these Night Time Fat Burners.
Are Night Time Fat Burners effective?
At the end of the day, these Night Time Fat Burners are nothing more than sleep aids, and they’re not even great at helping you sleep, thanks to that sneaky dose of caffeine.
Are they going to burn any fat? Unfortunately not. Here’s the truth: there’s no magical pill that can make you burn more fat while you sleep, not even medication can do that. It’s just not how our body works. The key to burning fat is what you do during the day.
Eating healthy, exercising regularly, and staying active throughout the day will do way more for your weight loss goals than relying on a supplement that promises to do the work for you at night.
Overall review: Night Time Fat Burners
Reviewing these Night Time Fat Burners by effectiveness for weight loss, I’m giving it an F. It’s a glorified sleep aid, and won’t do anything for fat or weight loss.
Reviewing these Night Time Fat Burners by cost, I’m giving it a B. These Night Time Fat Burners seem to be somewhat fairly priced, although you could still get the individual ingredients for cheaper.
Reviewing these Night Time Fat Burners for safety, I’m giving it a C. The unlisted dose of melatonin and caffeine in the green coffee extract can make it more difficult to predict its effects and possible side effects in certain people.
Overall review, I’m giving these Night Time Fat Burners an F. I would recommend you stay away from it.
